Nyungwe Forest was gazetted in 2000, and is Rwanda’s newest and largest National Park, extending across 1,000 square kilometers of mountainous southwestern Burundi border region, where it protects the largest extant montane rainforest in East Africa. Nyungwe Forest’s main attraction for most visitors is its population of at least 500 Chimpanzees in Rwanda, which can be tracked at in south western part in Cyamudongo that hosts about 13 primate species that include habituated Chimpanzees, Rare Angolan colobus monkey, l’hoest monkey, owl faced, baboons, red tailed monkeys among others which you can explore Nyungwe forest on foot. As visitors explore Nyungwe forests, they have the opportunity to encounter another big draw of canopy walk, constructed in 2010 and is the only one of its kind in Africa. It is 50m above the forest and 200-metre-long canopy walkway that offers thrilling views of life above the forest floor. Besides primates, the forest is rich in terms of bird life with excellent opportunities to explore variety of fascinating bird species in Nyungwe some of them being endemic to the Albertine rift region hosting around 310 bird species,  24 that are endemic to the few remaining forests of the Albertine Rift among them Ruwenzori turaco, red-collared babbler, and red-throated alethe. It is also a great site for the garish great blue turaco, which is often seen crossing the road in heavy-flapping flocks.
