Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forests
Day 1: Leave Kigali –Nyungwe Forest National Park (Travel Time +6hrs)
07:00 Early morning departure for Nyungwe national park in the South-western region of Rwanda. en-route we pass through the Cultural heritage Corridor stopping at King Mutara III Rudahigwa’s 1931 royal palace museum, standing today as it was many decades ago with the ‘Inyambo’, traditional Rwandan cows known for their impressive long horns.
Arriving One & Only Nyungwe House for your lunch take a great outdoors activity to visit the tea plantations of Gisakura. Allow our motivating guide to lead you on a kinetic workout through the leafy tracks surrounding the tea plantation. The natural landscape is the only equipment you’ll need for this jungle-style boot camp. Take an experience of tea from crop to cup tea.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trek & Nyungwe Night Walk Experience
Today at 05h00 you will get your packed breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for chimpanzee trek briefing and formalities and then to the evergreen forest for a great experience that starts at 06h00. You may spot a wide variety of bird life. Dashing at high speed through the flora, hooting and clanging – it’s a truly exhilarating experience to encounter chimpanzees playing, wild and free.
Home to one of East Africa’s last intact chimpanzee populations, Nyungwe is an ideal place to observe chimps in their natural habitat. Most active in the morning, an early rise is required for maximum viewing opportunity, and a beautifully prepared breakfast will be enjoyed ‘on the go’. Allow experienced, expert trackers to guide you on a deep forest trail, learning about these fascinating creatures and the enchanting forest they call home.
Return to the lodge at around 11h00. 12h30: Have an early lunch. The afternoon is spent on relaxation in preparations for the Nyungwe Night Experience and Star gazing tour. When the sun goes down, the forest really comes to life, and now you don’t have to miss a thing! Heading out on foot with your expert Field Guide, this private tour uses spotlights to seek out the intriguing nocturnal creatures that emerge from their tree hollows, burrows, nests, and dens at twilight.
On clear nights, you can then take a turn on the telescope and hear fascinating stories about the dazzling equatorial night sky. Many of the major planets can be seen just after sunset, while famous constellations reveal their beauty against the dusk.

Day 3: Canopy Walk Experience & Leave Nyungwe –Kigali Out
Monring at 0900AM leave Nyungwe House for Canopy walk briefing that takes place at 09h00. Your guided canopy walk will start at 09h00. Experience the rainforest from a dazzling new perspective – on the famous Canopy Walkway. The only walk of its kind in East Africa, this breathtaking construction hangs 60 metres above the forest floor between giant trees and towers, revealing a stunning view of the flora and fauna, both below and above. An iconic experience, not to be missed! Thereafter return back to Kigali City, Lunch Enroute.
